July 9, 1864

2 additional divisions of the 6th US Army CorpsArmy of the Potomac, embark at City Point, VA, the Petersburg, VA lines for the defense of Washington, DC, against Jubal Early, CSA.  Maj. Gen. George Meade, USA, orders additional pressure to be exerted on Gen. Robert E. Lee’s Petersburg, VA, lines.
