Lieut. Gen. Ulysses S. Grant, USA, travels to Charlestown, WV, to meet with Maj. Gen. Philip H. Sheridan, USA, to discuss a Union offensive against Lieut. Gen. Jubal Early, CSA, whose army has been depleted with the reinforcement of Gen. Robert E. Lee, CSA, at Petersburg, VA.
