My 4th great grandfather, Colonel John Thomas Kennedy, was the commanding officer of the 16th NC Cavalry battalion. He was also a major in the 62nd GA cavalry, part of the NC companies that were attached to the 62nd GA, then a short time as the 7th CSA cavalry if I remember correctly, then the 16th NC, then finally the 75th NC regiment of cavalry, near the end. Colonel Kennedy was also wounded at Petersburg, captured and taken to a Union hospital, imprisoned, and then traded.
