Andy Hall at Dead Confederates has posted an interesting letter by Lt. Charles C. Cone of the 8th United States Colored Troops, written while in front of Petersburg on September 20, 1864. Cone’s letter conveys his disgust at the peace platform the Democrats settles on. He also questions the Presidential qualifications of Sherman, Farragut, and (Future President) Ulysses S. Grant.
