Unit: 14th South Carolina
Unit Affiliation: (McGowan), Wilcox, III
Title: A Colonel at Gettysburg and Spotsylvania
Author: Brown, V.D.
SOPO’s Take: Scattered mentions of Petersburg appear throughout the book, including details on Colonel Joseph Newton Brown missing the early siege. After being paroled in August 1864, he rejoined his regiment for the rest of the campaign, frequently commanding the brigade in McGowan’s absence.
