How You Can Help The Siege of Petersburg Online: Beyond the Crater

The Siege of Petersburg Online: Beyond the Crater depends on readers to make this site all that it can be.  Donations of Siege of Petersburg materials, your time to help transcribe newspapers, diaries, and letters, or even money to help with the yearly hosting costs are all greatly appreciated.

Send in Your Petersburg Campaign Materials!

Do you have materials pertaining to the Siege of Petersburg in your possession which we cannot easily obtain on our own here at Beyond the Crater?  If so, please consider using our Contact Form to let us know what you have.  If we can use these materials (and 99.9% of the time we can), we’ll follow up with you and determine how best to reproduce/use those materials here, with your express permission of course.  Unfortunately, we do not have a large budget and this is a not for profit site, so if you are looking to sell your Siege of Petersburg materials to us, this probably will not happen.

Donate Your Time to Help with Transcribing Important Siege of Petersburg Documents

So far, Beyond the Crater has been mostly the work of owner/editor Brett Schulte.  Volunteers to help with some of the workload are welcome!  If you are interested in helping to transcribe Siege of Petersburg materials such as newspapers, letters, and diaries, please use our Contact Form to volunteer.  Together we can make this site useful for researchers and descendants of the men and women who participated in the Siege of Petersburg in some way.

Donate Money to The Siege of Petersburg Online – Beyond the Crater

If you enjoy what you see here at Beyond the Crater: The Siege of Petersburg Online, please consider donating a small amount to cover the annual hosting and domain costs of over $100.  Because BTC is a not-for-profit effort, any amount of money in excess of this amount in a given year will go towards the purchase of more material pertaining to the Petersburg Campaign.

I have just purchased the inspection reports of Heth’s and Pickett’s divisions as well as the Union ordnance reports. I need to know how I can access them. Will I be able to download them? If so, what is the procedure? Do the division reports include the brigade reports that are separately listed?

    Joe,

These are good questions. When you purchase items from the BTC Store I will email the files you purchased as email attachments. I just filled your order now. Typically I will fill an order as soon as I see it, though in rare cases it might take me 24-48 hours to fill an order if something is going on. I tried to go with a digital download method but with two young boys I haven’t had the time to make that work to my satisfaction. At some point I will make this all automated, but for now I am filling these manually.

The Division reports do not include the reports of its brigades. I was unsure of how this worked myself until I started transcribing these. Division and Corps artillery reports are for the organization as a whole and do not go into further details in specific batteries or brigades. Those smaller units have their own inspection reports. I’m about half way through Roll 10 with Roll 11 on the way. Your purchase today puts me well on my way to having enough money in my Paypal account to purchase Roll12, so I thank you for that.

If you have any follow-up questions I’ll be happy to answer them for you.

    Brett
