Third Offensive Order of Battle: Second Brigade | First Division | XIX Corps | Union Army (July 19-27?, 1864)7,[3o1. The War of the Rebellion: A Compilation of the Official Records of the Union and Confederate Armies, Volume XXXVII, Part 2 (Serial Number 71), p. 459: McMillan’s Brigade 2/1/XIX) was ordered to leave Bermuda Hundred for Washington on July 27. If the 12th Connecticut left with the rest of its brigade, then it probably left Bermuda Hundred on July 27, 1864.]

  • Commander:
    • Colonel Ledyard Colburn (July 4, 1864, but was he at Petersburg? I don’t think so.)8
    • Lieutenant Colonel Frank H. Peck (July 19, 1864)9
  • Unit Strength:
  • Weapons:
  • Note: The 12th Connecticut arrived at Bermuda Hundred on July 19, 1864.  A history of the regiment in Record of Service of Connecticut Men in the Army and Navy of the United States During the War of the Rebellion indicates the regiment only stayed at Bermuda Hundred for two days, but it seems more likely the unit was there with the rest of its brigade until July 27 or 28, 1864. More research s needed.10,11

Siege of Petersburg Battles19:

  • Moved to Fortress Monroe, Va., thence to Washington, D.C., July 5-13.
  • Landed at Bermuda Hundred on July 19, 1864.20
  • Probably left Bermuda Hundred for Washington, D.C.21
  • Snicker’s Gap expedition July 14-23. [Note: This seems wrong.  I do not believe the 12th CT was a part of this expedition.]
