April 5, 1865

The engagement at Amelia Springs, VA, as Gen. Robert E. Lee, CSA, unable to feed his hungry army, orders food be sent by rail from Lynchburg, and turns his army toward Farmville.  Maj. Gen. George G. Meade, USA, refrains Maj. Gen. Philip H. Sheridan, USA from an all out attack until more Federal reinforcements arrive, the Appomattox, VA, Campaign.
