Regular readers will recall that I’ve been purchasing microfilm rolls from the National Archives which contain Union Ordnance returns for June 30, 1864 and September 30, 1864. For those of you unfamiliar with the term, an ordnance return lists out the weapons a unit units on the last day of a given quarter (i.e March 31, June 30, September 30, and December 31 of a given year). I have many of these returns available by state or the entire set for a given date at the BTC Store.
I’ve spent the better part of this Saturday posting the weapons given regiments and battalions were using on June 30, 1864 on their various unit pages. Units from the following states should now almost all have weapons listed for the First Offensive (June 15-18, 1864) and the Second Offensive (June 19-24, 1864):
My plan is to continue working on all units which have weapons listed on the June 30, 1864 Union ordnance return until they are posted. I’ll have more updates as units from other states get weapons listed on their unit pages.
