March 23, 1865
President Abraham Lincoln departs from Washington, D.C., with his wife and son, to confer with Lieut. Gen. Ulysses S. Grant and Maj. Gen. William T. Sherman, USA, at City Point, VA, outside Petersburg, VA.
The Second Corps, Army of the Potomac is reviewed at 2:30 in the afternoon. Several brigades of the Fifth Corps and Sixth Corps help to cover for the Second Corps along the lines during the event.
General Fitzhugh Lee is assigned to command all of the Confederate cavalry north of the James River.
