150 Years Ago Today at Petersburg: March 12, 1865

March 12, 1865

Major General George L. Hartsuff is ordered to report to Ulysses S. Grant at City Point, Va., for duty.  He is ordered to command the Defenses of Bermuda Hundred a week later.

Ulysses S. Grant orders 100,000 rations be sent to White House, Virginia, to be used by the cavalry divisions of General Sheridan as they approach the Richmond and Petersburg area.

Col. Samuel H. Roberts and his Third Brigade, Third Division, 24th Corps, Army of the James are ordered to return from their Potomac River expedition and move to White House, there to guard the 100,000 rations Grant has ordered for Sheridan.

General Sheridan’s expedition, moving down the James River, reaches Frederick’s Hall and Goochland, Virginia.
