150 Years Ago Today at Petersburg: January 22, 1865

January 22, 1865

Lieutenant General Ulysses S. Grant leaves Washington, D. C., returning to City Point and the Siege of Petersburg.

Confederate attack on the Union picket line on Bermuda Hundred, which attempted to find out if the obstructions in the James River could be passed by the Confederate James River Squadron in order to attack Grant’s headquarters and supply depot at City Point, Virginia.
