Reminiscences of the Guilford Grays, Co. B., 27th N. C. Regiment by John Alexander Sloan is a wonderful account of the entire 4 years of the war. They were part of A.P. Hill’s corps and served side by side with my g-g-grandfather’s regiment, Co. A 46th NC. I had many, many ancestors who served in the 46th and I have have done much research on this regiment. These men (the 15th, 27th, 46th, and 48th NC) all were stationed at Petersburg during the entire siege. They were positioned close enough to the explosion which formed the crater to give some very fascinating accounts and details of that particular assault. The book I mentioned above is available as a free e-book at Google Books.

    Tracie,

Thank you for the recommendation. I’ve added that book to my master spreadsheet of regimental histories, and I’ll try to add a page for the book as soon as possible.

Do you have any information on the 46th while they were at Petersburg? If so, could you use the Contact form at the top of the site to get in touch? I’d love to feature some of that information here.

    Brett
