    4. This image of Lt. Simon Pincus was graciously provided by Ross Schacher.  Simon Pincus is Ross’s great great uncle.  Mr. Schacher is the sole owner of this image, and it may not be reproduced without his express written consent. Lt. Pincus had an eventful Civil War!  Ross writes: “Uncle Sime and Uncle Adolph fought in most of the battles with the Army of the Potomac. Uncle Sime was hit 15 or 16 times charging Marie’s Heights at the Battle of Fredricksburg; the surgeon pulled some 14 or 15 pieces of shrapnel from him afterwards. This following bit you can verify from an article in the Brooklyn Eagle. When Uncle Sime was in his 80’s, he started limping and went to the doctor. The doctor x-rayed his leg and asked Uncle Sime if he had been a hunting accident recently. Uncle Sime replied that he hadn’t touched a gun since the Civil War. THAT was when the doctor told him that he had a musket ball in his leg. He was operated on, and a musket ball was removed from where it had been in his leg for 67 & 1/2 years. Seems they thought it was a graze and just bandaged it up.”
