Note: Non-Veterans of the 3 year 2nd New Jersey Regiment left the front in June, 1864, and mustered out at Trenton, N.J., June 23, 1864. Veterans and Recruits temporarily attached to 15th New Jersey Infantry under orders of May 29, 1864, until December 17, 1864, when reorganized as the 2nd New Jersey Veteran Battalion.

Muster In: The veterans and recruits of the 2nd New Jersey were reorganized as the 2nd New Jersey Veteran Battalion on December 17, 1864.1
Muster Out: Mustered out at Hall’s Hill, Va., July 11, 1865.2

  • Note: The only remaining company of the 2nd New Jersey was attached to the 15th New Jersey during the month of January 1865. This does not appear to be the case in February, at least according to the Official Records.  More research is needed.20,21
  • Note: This unit is listed in the casualty returns for the Battle of Hatcher’s Run, February 5-7, 1865, implying it was present during the Eighth Offensive and the battle.22
