Sharpshooter Battalion, Lane’s Brigade

Editor’s Note: Do you have information on this unit’s role at the Siege of Petersburg?  Please contact us using the Contact button in the menu at the top of the screen.  We are happy to exchange information with other researchers.

Note: Sharpshooter Battalions were formed from the regiments of a brigade in the Army of Northern Virginia.  The men often served with their own regiments until called to duty for sharpshooter (skirmishing) work.  However, they were counted as members of their parent regiment in terms of muster rolls.  I have created sharpshooter battalion unit pages on a case by case basis when it can be determined that a sharpshooter battalion participated in action as a separate unit at any point during the Siege of Petersburg.
