October 9, 1864

Skirmish near Piedmont, VA.

Engagement at Tom’s Brook, near Strasburg, VA, as the Union cavalry under Brig. Gens. Alfred T. Torbert, George Armstrong Custer, and Wesley Merritt, USA, rout the Confederates led by Maj. Gen. Lunsford Lindsay Lomax, and Brig. Gen. Thomas L. Rosser, CSA, who lose over 300 men captured.
