May 5, 1864

Maj. Gen. Benjamin F. Butler, USA, lands at Bermuda Hundred and City Point (now Hopewell), VA, below Richmond, VA.

Brig. Gen. August V. Kautz’s, USA, raid against the Petersburg and Weldon Railroad, VA, including skirmishes:
a) at the Birch Island Bridges, the Blackwater River (6th)
b) Stony Creek Station (7th), and
c) at Jarratt’s Station and White’s Bridge (8th), VA.
