Today in the Petersburg Campaign: May 30, 1864

May 30, 1864

Skirmish at Ashland near Hanover, VA, as Lieut. Gen. Ulysses S. Grant, USA, arrives along the Totopotomoy River, almost within 10 miles of Richmond, VA, but blocking the way is the The Army of Northern Virginia, north of the Chickahominy River.
