January 27, 1865

The Federals capture and refloat the Confederate torpedo boat, Scorpion, on the James River, below Richmond, VA.

Maj. Gen. Gouverneur K. Warren, USA, resumes the command of the 5th US Army Corps, the Richmond, VA, Campaign.
