Today in the Petersburg Campaign: February 21, 1865

February 21, 1865

The Confederate raid on Cumberland, MD, where Liuet. Gen. Jubal A. Early’s, CSA, Cavalry of Partisan Rangers under Capt. Jesse McNeill, sweeps into the well fortified town, capturing Maj. Gen. George Crook, USA, and Bvt. Maj. Gen. Benjamin F. Kelley, USA, a most embarrassing event for the Yankees, especially the 2 Union Major Generals.  They were taken to Richmon, and eventually paroled.
