NP: June 17, 1864 Columbus Daily Enquirer: Petersburg Yankees

Editor’s Note: This article was transcribed by Ken Perdue.

The news from Petersburg arouses apprehensions that the Yankees will obtain possession of the city; but it must be borne in mind that they entered the outer works in their assault of the 9th and were afterwards driven out. The [fact?] of the publication of the Express the morning after the enemy entered the outer works does not indicate great alarm or the stopping of business in the city.

We interpret this movement as the forerunner of Grant’s advance in full force on the Southside.1
