NP: June 16, 1864 Richmond Examiner: The Transportation of the Wounded

Editor’s Note: This article was transcribed by Jackie Martin.

THE TRANSPORTATION OF THE WOUNDED.—It seems to us there should be some arrangement at the railroad depots whereby the wounded from the hospitals could be conveyed direct from the ambulances to the cars, and not be compelled to stand in a crowd of jostling men and negroes until the officials see proper to open the doors, when they are carried along in the rush for seats, sometimes aggravating their wounds afresh.  The wounded should be put aboard the cars as they reach the depot, as crowds anxious in search of seats have very little consideration for a wounded soldier in their way.1
