150 Years Ago Today at Petersburg: December 24, 1864

December 24, 1864

Maj. Gen. Benjamin F. Butler, USA, resumes the command of the Army of the James, the Richmond, VA, Campaign.

The Siege Train of the Union armies operating against Richmond, commanded by Brevet Brigadier General Henry L. Abbot, is officially permanently attached to the Army of the Potomac.

Hunton’s Brigade, Pickett’s Division, First Corps, Army of Northern Virginia, and Bratton’s Brigade, Field’s Division, First Corps, Army of Northern Virginia, return to the Siege of Petersburg.
