150 Years Ago Today at Petersburg: December 22, 1864

December 22, 1864

Hoke’s Division, Fourth Corps, Army of Northern Virginia, continues to leave the Siege of Petersburg, to help combat the Union attempts to capture Fort Fisher near Wilmington, North Carolina.

Hunton’s Brigade, Pickett’s Division, First Corps, Army of Northern Virginia, and Bratton’s Brigade, Field’s Division, First Corps, Army of Northern Virginia, are ordered to Gordonsville, Virginia to resist the advance of Union cavalry on that place.

General John Gibbon, commanding Second Division, Second Corps, Army of the Potomac, is granted a 10 day leave of absence for health reasons.

One full brigade of the first Division, Army of West Virginia reaches Bermuda Hundred.
