At What Battle Did Black Civil War Soldiers Earn the Most Medals of Honor?

That would be the Battle of New Market Heights, fought early on the morning of September 29, 1864, a part of Grant’s Fifth Offensive designed to capture Richmond.  Fellow Civil War blogger Jimmy Price has been studying the battle for years and recently saw the release of his book The Battle of New Market Heights: Freedom Will Be Theirs by the Sword.  A recent online article at Fredericksburg.com highlighted Jimmy’s work and the importance of New Market Heights.  A follow-up piece looks at the very real threat of this battlefield disappearing forever due to the expansion of Richmond.  Congratulations again to Jimmy for writing the first modern book to focus exclusively on this overlooked but important battle.
