Title: The Campfire Chronicles: The Words and Deeds of the 88th Pennsylvania 1861-1865

Author: Ayoub, Michael N.

BTC’s Take: A day by day account of the 88th Pennsylvania during its Civil War service. This reads more like a regimental itinerary than a cohesive narrative, but it is chock full of information on the regiment’s activities, locations, leaders, strengths, etc. and was an interesting read. He intersperses these facts with a LOT of first person accounts by the men who were there, letting them add to their story 150 years later. The down side is that this book has a lot of extremely confusing typos, and it’s clear the author isn’t all that familiar with some of the smaller fights which took place at Petersburg.  That said, give this self-published book a chance. You will enjoy it.
